MANIFA'S STORY: SELECTING OUR FLORIST

Hello fellow brides. I’m glad to be back with an update on wedding planning! We have finally booked a florist!

Picking a florist was very easy! I already knew who I wanted, so it was the matter of whether or not we can afford to hire him. But, before I get into which florist we hired I want to talk a little bit about the whole idea of having flowers at our wedding.

Emin and I dreaded having to pay for flowers. We both agreed it is a waste of money. It just sits there, no one really takes it home, and all it does is make the banquet hall look pretty. There’s no real use to it. Considering Metropol is already a very beautiful venue and that I don’t really like flowers, we didn’t care to pay so much for centerpieces. When Emin and I sat and talked about our budget for flowers, I told him I didn’t really want flowers so we should keep the budget low. I was fine with not doing any centerpieces and just making our sweetheart table and cake table very grand and majestic. After all that’s usually the focal point for pictures. Emin and I decided on a below average budget for our flowers. We knew it would probably be difficult to find someone who could work with what we were offering, but if it meant not having centerpieces we were okay with that.

My mom and I did a lot of research using Pinterest for centerpiece designs. Because our wedding colors are black, red, and gold we really wanted to come up with a design that felt romantic and regal. After looking at things online, I decided I didn’t want floral centerpieces. Candles seemed to fit our theme much more! Emin was up for the idea. Unfortunately for us, there weren’t many florists who were doing much with candles. Yes, they were using them, but not as the focal point of the table. That’s where our florist comes in.

SERENA WILLIAMS: "I'M AN HONORARY ARMENIAN"

Recently we featured Alexis Ohanian, Sr. and Serena Williams' gorgeous wedding on our blog. We were honored to have met Alexis Ohanian at the Hustle While You Work event hosted by Open Listings, and pleasantly surprised when Alexis answered our questions about his and Serena's wedding in New Orleans. As if talking to Alexis Ohanian (co-founder of Reddit and now founder of Initialized Capital) was not enough, we loved hearing about his love of Armenian food and the fact that Alexis and Serena chose to serve khorovats at their wedding!

Now, just a few months later, we are thrilled to come across a Twitter post by tennis journalist David Avakian with the following quote from Serena herself:

"I'm married to an Armenian, and I have learned that Armenians are incredibly proud. So I'm learning a lot about the culture. My daughter is half Armenian. I'm an honorary Armenian now, so it makes me feel really good. It's a great, great, great feeling. Yeah I love how proud they are. Some things just happened recently over there [Velvet Revolution]. I'm planning on actually going to go visit there. I don't know when, but I think either this year or next year..."

MANIFA'S STORY: MY WEDDING DRESS

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been waiting forever to write this blog. Time for Wedding Dress Shopping!!!  For anyone who is named Emin, you must stop reading here. Everyone else, please continue!

I’m not even going to lie, I went dress shopping very early. Like a week after I was proposed to early. What can I say? I’ve never tried on a wedding dress before and I had been dreaming about my wedding dress since I was like five! Before I made any appointments, I called one of my closest friends, Taleen, and asked her where she got her wedding gown. Of course, it was none other than the famous Karoza Bridal. So, the first appointment I made was there. I asked my mom and mother-in-law to come with me. I knew that they would both be straight forward with their opinions and advice.

When we got to Karoza my whole body was shaking with excitement. I had done my homework ahead of time and went in with a list of dresses I knew I wanted to try on. Karla was my dress expert and she told me I could go into the showroom and pick out some dresses while she pulled the ones I had written down. From here my mom, Emin’s mom, and I split up and just started pulling dresses like crazy. My mom really wanted to see me in a satin gown, while Emin’s mom wanted to see me in a mermaid dress. I just pulled whatever looked romantic and whimsical.

17 IRISH WEDDING CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS

We love when couples choose to incorporate their culture or wedding traditions on their big day. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we're sharing some of our favorite Irish wedding traditions!

1. Horseshoe:

Horseshoe symbolizes good luck in many cultures. In Irish tradition, brides carried a horseshoe with them on their wedding day to bring good luck to the occasion and their marriage. Eventually, instead of an actual horseshoe brides started carrying a symbol of the horseshoe. According to the legends, the horseshoe should face up resembling a "U" so that the luck doesn't run out.

FEATURED ENGAGEMENT: MASIS & ARINA

Arina was excited to celebrate her 23rd birthday party with her family and close friends. Little did she know that her then-boyfriend, Masis, was going to propose to her that night, and turn the event into their engagement party!

Before we share their romantic surprise proposal story, let's get to know the couple a bit. Masis and Arina met in 2014 and soon started dating. When we asked the couple how they met, Masis responded "It was love at first sight when I saw Arina shopping at the mall with her friend. A couple months later I finally got around to find her on Instagram, and it all started there!"

MANIFA'S STORY: SELECTING OUR DJ

Hello readers! I hope you all enjoyed my Trndez blog. Let me update you all on how wedding planning is going. I’m super excited to be writing about this next vendor.

What are the three most important things during wedding planning?

  1. Photo/Video: You want to hire the best crew so that they can capture your special day. At end of it, all that is left is the memories.
  2. Banquet Hall: This is going to be home to your guests for almost 6 hours. It needs to big enough and comfortable enough to accommodate everyone.
  3. MUSIC: Especially for an Armenian wedding, your music needs to be ON POINT to keep your guests dancing and having fun.

Armenian Wedding Dancing at Taglyan

For Emin and I, hiring the right DJ was one of the most serious tasks. The one thing we both wanted was to make sure our wedding was like a rave; non-stop, AMAZING music, and our guests would never sit down. We had to have the right DJ who could, not only, get the party started, but keep the party going all night long. We need someone with a lot of knowledge on Armenian and Persian music, as well as Latin and EDM. Incorporating “rave music” into our wedding is a must. For this task, I decided we would only meet with three DJs. Whoever we felt understood what we wanted for our wedding would be hired. Before I chose which three DJs would get an interview, I used Harsanik.com to make a list of potential people we could hire. I went through the list of DJs and whoever had the most positive reviews got on the list. Then I started calling. After talking to a bunch of DJs I picked our top 3...
