This week we're excited to feature a fashion designer who specializes in bridesmaid dresses, custom wedding gowns, and party attire! Her name is Anoushka Alden and we recently came across her gown designs on her Etsy shop and fell in love with her style. So we took the time to get to know Anoushka and asked her to share with us her most recent experience making bridesmaid dresses for a wedding in Palm Springs, CA for a couple named Natalie and Chris.
Natalie’s energy amazes me. Her creativity is astounding, and she has excellent taste. So, naturally, when she called me to dress her bridesmaids, I was flattered. Like most brides, she planned out every detail- down to the personalized hangtags for their dresses. But as a hands-on planner/designer, she even went and purchased the silk and ribbon for their dresses. The bride chose a buttery-soft washed silk crepe de chine in a lovely dove grey. It’s a perfect color and fabric for a spring wedding because it allows the bouquets to pop and doesn’t weigh the dress down.
Our process began by having the bridesmaids choose which of my designs they wanted to wear, except for one that was a completely new design inspired by photos. The theme that ran through their dresses was my layered strips of fabric. After a group meeting to get measurements, I made samples and met with the ladies individually. Needing only minor adjustments, the dresses were stitched up.
I love working with clients in person because it makes me feel like I’m a part of the beautifully planned day. As the wedding day approached, I loved being a part of the building energy. At their fittings, Natalie’s bridesmaids would text photos of their dresses to her to show how cute they looked. I loved that! When my designs are in a wedding, I go above and beyond what’s expected because I know how the bride is juggling work, family, friends, planning, and probably packing and moving. I strive to make it as easy and as memorable as possible for her and her bridesmaids.
I hope you enjoy the photos below and you can see the rest of Natalie & Chris' wedding photos at Greenweddingshoes.com.
